Parveen Zuberi

London based and internationally esteemed ceramist Parveen Zuberi was born in India and grew up in Pakistan and later lived in Aden before moving to the UK in 1968. 

Since completing her MA in 'Visual Islamic & Traditional Arts' at The Prince's School of Traditional Arts in London, her work has been featured around the world, including a major exhibition of her work at the Victoria & Albert Museum in 2006. Additionally, her work has been displayed in numerous galleries, including at the Blue Pottery International Exhibition in New Delhi in 2004 and Art in Action in Oxfordshire in 2005. 

Parveen draws her inspiration from Islamic traditional arts, the ceramics of South Asia and the decorative cycles of the ceramics held at various museums and collections in the United Kingdom. Parveen combines traditional and geometric designs with modern materials and clays and has expressed the following:

"Working with clay, is for me, a meditative experience, which powerfully links me to the past. It provides me with a feeling of engaging in a primordial activity in which the interplay of the four elements; earth, water, air and fire transform a base matter into a thing of beauty." 

Now in her seventies, Parveen's work is much sought after and collected for its beauty and grace. Cambridge Islamic Art is honoured to offer a second piece from Parveen - a beautiful limited edition handmade ceramic plaque with Kufic inscriptions.
