Artwork Title & Inspiration

‘Muhammad’.

Inspired by the 56th verse from the Holy Qur’an chapter, ‘Al-Aḥzāb’ (‘The Confederates’) [33:56] and hadith Sunan Abī Dāwūd 1047.

Translation: ‘Truly God and His angels invoke blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe! Invoke blessings upon him, and greetings of peace!’ [33:56] Holy Qur’an.

Aws ibn Aws reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Verily, the best of your days is Friday. Adam was created on it, on it he died, on it the trumpet will be blown, and on it the shout will be made. Thus, send blessings upon me often, for your blessings are presented to me.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, how are our blessings presented to you after you have decayed?” The Prophet said, “Verily, Allah Almighty has forbidden the earth from consuming the bodies of the prophets.” - Sunan Abī Dāwūd 1047.

"It was a Thursday night (the night of Jumu’ah) when I first started thinking of a design and the above hadith came to mind. During my time studying at Darul Uloom Bury, it was a strong custom for the teachers and students to sit together in dhikr gathering after sunset prayers. Because of this I wanted to create a piece that visually represents the sacredness and spiritual depth behind a dhikr and tasawwuf within the Islamic tradition. - Samiur Rahman.

“The dome is a cosmic symbol in every religious tradition; and symbolically, in Islam the dome represents the vault of heaven in the same way as the garden prefigures Paradise,” - James Dickie.

Large veneers from Movingui and fumed oak surrounded with Laurel Burr and Eucalyptus Burr veneers forming the geometric weaving and inlay banding. Movingui veneer is also used to portray the ‘nuqta’ within the geometric pattern. This panel is framed with Chestnut wood.
