Ferhat Kurlu
Ferhat Kurlu (b. 1976, Fatsa, Turkey) is undoubtedly one of Turkey's most renowned and successful calligraphers.
Ferhat Kurlu's first experience of calligraphy was in studying the Rik'a script under Muzaffer Ecevit Bey in 1993. In 1996 he met master Hasan Çelebi under whom he began learning Thuluth and Naskh scripts, receiving his ijaza (diploma/license) in 2000 at IRCICA.
Ferhat Kurlu has won a number of awards and his calligraphy graces the fountains and domes of many mosques around the world.
He currently resides in Istanbul where he continues to practice calligraphy, teach, and serve as Imam-hatip of the Nişantaşı Meşrutiyet-Hamidiye Mosque.
