Nuria García Masip

Master calligrapher, Nuria García Masip (b. 1978, Ibiza, Spain), grew up between Spain and the U.S.A. In 1999, after completing her B.A. in French and Spanish Literature at The George Washington University, U.S.A., she travelled to Morocco where she developed an interest in Islamic art. In 2000, she returned to Washington D.C. where she began studying the Rik'a, Thuluth and Naskh scripts with master calligrapher, Mohamed Zakariya. In 2004, she moved to Istanbul where she continued to study Thuluth and Naskh scripts with master Mohamed Zakariya's teacher, grand master Hasan Çelebi, and with master Davut Bektaş.

Nuria finaly recieved her Ijaza (diploma/license) in these two scripts, signed by her three teachers, under the auspices of IRCICA (Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture).

Nuria is currently living in Paris, where she produces her own calligraphic works. She participates actively in international calligraphy exhibitions and has organised workshops and conferences on this art. She visits Istanbul regularly where she continues to further her calligraphy studies under the guidance of her teachers.
